The Significant Investor Visa (SIV) is an investment program (Subclass 188C) sponsored by the Australian government that offers a pathway to permanent Australian residency. Overseas-based entrepreneurs and high net worth individuals can qualify for permanent residency by making complying investments in areas that are expected to benefit the Australian economy.

To comply, investments must:

  • be provided by an Australian Financial Services (AFS) licensed manager domiciled in Australia

  • have a Declaration 1413D (Deed of Declaration) available which provides proof of a fund’s complying status

  • can be made directly into complying managed funds, or through a ‘fund of fund’ or an Investor Directed Portfolio Service (IDPS)

The investment period is five years and applicants must invest at least $5 million into three streams of complying investments:

  • Balancing Investment

  • Emerging Companies

  • Venture Capital and Growth Private Equity Funds

The investment period is five years (for all applications lodged after 1 July 2021) and provisional visa holders are required to maintain an aggregate investment of at least $5 million across three mandated economic streams:

  • Balancing Investment – up to 50% ($2,500,000) such as ASX-listed equities (S&P/ASX 300), eligible corporate bonds, or commercial real estate

  • Emerging Companies – 30% ($1,500,000) such as S&P/ASX Small Ordinaries or unlisted small companies

  • Venture Capital and Growth Private Equity Funds – 20% (1,000,000) such as start-ups and small private companies

When applying, the onus is on investors to prove the funds in which they are investing are compliant.

Available SIV Funds:
